Courtney and Colin! What an incredible couple and such an honor to be their San Francisco City Hall wedding photographer.
C+C’s autumn wedding was an intimate affair right before Thanksgiving, attended by just immediate family and a few close friends. They started their day getting ready and reading their vows privately at the elegant Fairmont San Francisco, soaking in the excitement and quiet anticipation before heading to City Hall for their ceremony.
Getting married at San Francisco City Hall
San Francisco City Hall is one of the most iconic and breathtaking venues for couples looking to tie the knot in the Bay Area. Its grand beaux-arts architecture, soaring dome, and marble staircases provide a backdrop that feels both historic and timeless.
For couples interested in marrying here, the process requires securing a marriage license from the San Francisco County Clerk’s office, which can be done online or in person. Once you have your license, you’ll need to schedule your ceremony through the City Hall’s Marriage Ceremony Office. They do not accept walk-ins, and it’s important to book well in advance since time slots can fill quickly (especially during popular months).
Ceremonies are typically performed by a Deputy Marriage Commissioner in one of the building’s beautiful rooms or outdoor locations, including the grand rotunda. You’re allowed to have up to six (6) guests at your ceremony, too (which does include your photographer!).
Post-ceremony portraits + reception
After exchanging vows, we took some portraits around City Hall. The natural light filtering through the enormous windows and the elegant details of the building created a captivating setting for photos of Courtney and Colin.
Following the ceremony, the couple’s closest friends greeted them outside City Hall’s entrance to toast their union. The group then headed to a cozy, private dinner reception at Wayfare Tavern, one of San Francisco’s beloved restaurants known for its warm ambiance and seasonal dishes.
The weather was perfect that November day, maybe a little chilly for some (but I loved it!). Watching Courtney and Colin’s joy, surrounded by those who love them most, made the day feel so incredibly special. Their San Francisco City Hall wedding was a beautiful reminder that sometimes, the simplest ceremonies with the most meaningful people can make the biggest impact.
Here are just a few of my favorite images from their unforgettable day…
