All Erika and Mitchell wanted from their Santa Barbara engagement photos was a bit of adventure sprinkled with love and laughter. Even before we started planning their shoot, I already knew Erika and Mitchell thrive on connection, movement, and the kind of joy that makes every photo feel effortless.
The couple wanted their engagement photos to reflect their love for each other as well as the places that have shaped their story. From the coast where they play and surf to the rolling hills where nature seems to glow in every direction, Erika and Mitch really love living in Santa Barbara. With so many meaningful locations to choose from, we designed a session that would capture a little bit of everything: laughter, intimacy, movement, and moments that are uniquely Erika and Mitchell.
Beginning with the beach
We opted to begin their photos at East Beach; these beach babes love the water (and Mitch loves to surf!). The serendipitously soft, foggy afternoon light made it the perfect backdrop to capture the couple’s natural chemistry. Between laughter, playful splashes, and stolen kisses, it was impossible not to feel the energy and joy that these two radiate when they’re together. We were also doing their Santa Barbara engagement photos just a few weeks before the wedding, so the anticipation was REAL!
Up the coast to Gaviota and Los Olivos
After soaking in the ocean views, we headed up the coast to the hills of Gaviota. The mustard was in full bloom thanks to all the recent rain, creating a vibrant golden carpet that perfectly framed Erika and Mitchell. Surrounded by the sweeping hills of yellow, the couple looked so effortlessly dreamy.
To wrap up our session, we headed to the Inn at Mattei’s Tavern in Los Olivos. Recently acquired by Auberge, the property has been updated beautifully while still honoring its 19th-century roots. The rustic architecture and warm, charming details made it the perfect final setting. Between the playful energy at the beach, the sun-drenched fields of Gaviota, and the intimacy of their guest suite at Mattei’s Tavern, this engagement session captured so many facets of Erika and Mitchell’s love.
My excitement for Erika and Mitchell’s April wedding cannot be overstated; I cannot wait to see how their celebration unfolds.
