When it came time to plan their wedding, Jasmine and Javier decided to keep their vows intimate, opting for simplicity. The couple traveled from Nevada to say “I do” at the iconic Santa Barbara Courthouse, inviting only their parents to witness the ceremony. It was a choice that allowed the day to feel deeply personal and focused entirely on their connection.
Fashion + location
Jasmine donned a modern gown by Galia Lahav, pairing clean lines with soft movement. Javier kept it classic in a black suit and bow tie. Before heading to the courthouse, the couple requested a few photos at their hotel, the Hilton Santa Barbara Beachfront Resort. It was a crisp, beautiful, quiet February morning along the coast; it was the kind of winter day in Santa Barbara that feels almost cinematic. The ocean breeze and peaceful atmosphere set the tone for what would be an effortless, intimate celebration.

A dream day for a Santa Barbara elopement photographer
For couples considering a civil ceremony at the Santa Barbara Courthouse, the process is wonderfully straightforward. First, you’ll need to obtain a marriage license from the County Clerk’s office, which can be done in person or by appointment. The courthouse offers civil ceremonies Monday through Friday, and they’re conducted by a county clerk near the historic Hall of Records (my favorite spot is on the adjacent lawn with the clock tower in the background, which is exactly what we did with Jasmine and Javier!).
After their civil ceremony, performed by the county clerk just outside the Hall of Records, J+J took a moment to read personal vows to each other (cue the tears!). This private exchange added an emotional layer to the day and created space for just the two of them to fully take in the moment.
As a Santa Barbara elopement photographer, it was such an honor to capture Javier and Jasmine’s love as we wandered through the picturesque grounds of the Santa Barbara Courthouse. We visited its iconic arches, tiled staircases, and lush gardens before heading to the stunning Douglas Family Preserve for a few coastal photo ops. With ocean views and wide-open skies, the Douglas Preserve offered the perfect contrast to the courthouse’s historic architecture. It was a quiet, natural setting to soak in their first moments as newlyweds. The day concluded with a celebratory lunch, where Jasmine and Javier rejoined their parents to toast, laugh, and reflect on a morning filled with love, intention, and joy.
Jasmine and Javier’s small, heartfelt ceremony was a perfect example of how a simple day with loved ones can feel both significant and memorable, especially in a place like Santa Barbara.
